WhatsApp Business app

The WhatsApp Business app is a separate version of the messenger for businesses, with a company profile, catalog, quick replies and labels, running on a regular phone number.

In plain words

It is the same WhatsApp, but for a company. It is installed on a phone and works with a regular number, but it adds a business profile: address, opening hours, description and a product catalog. There are quick replies, a greeting message, an away message and chat labels.

How it looks in practice

A small shop gets a number, fills in the profile and answers clients from one phone. A few more devices can be linked to the same number. Labels help separate new inquiries from paid orders.

How it differs from the API

The app is for live, manual conversations. The API is for connecting to your own systems and sending messages under the platform’s rules. The app has no proper access control, no reports by employee and no protection against someone deleting a conversation.

A number can be moved from the app to the API, but that is a separate procedure with its own conditions. Check the current rules with WhatsApp itself, as they change.

Why it matters to a manager

While there is one employee and a few dozen clients, the app is enough. Once there are several sales reps, questions appear: who replied, who promised what, whose phone holds the client base. The app does not answer them.

Common mistake

Registering the work number on a sales rep’s personal phone. When the person leaves, the number, the history and the clients leave with them. A work number should belong to the company from day one.

A second risk is mass messaging from the app. It quickly leads to complaints and a banned number.
