Broadcast List

A broadcast list is a saved set of contacts who each receive the same message as a private chat, with no shared group conversation.

In plain words

You write once, and every recipient sees the message in their own private chat with you, as if it were written only to them. Recipients cannot see each other and cannot reply to everyone. Each reply comes back to the sender alone.

WhatsApp has built-in broadcast lists: only people who saved your number in their contacts receive the message. This protects strangers from unwanted messages.

What it looks like in practice

A list is built around a trait: customers who paid this month, people who attended a meeting, debtors with a promise due on Friday. The more precise the trait, the more relevant the message and the higher the reply rate.

Why it matters to a manager

The quality of the list decides the fate of the number. A list of people who agreed to hear from you and expect messages produces almost no complaints. A list of bought or outdated numbers produces complaints, failed deliveries and blocks. Size is secondary: a thousand right recipients are worth more than ten thousand random ones.

A list needs maintenance: remove people who unsubscribed, unreachable numbers and contacts who stopped responding long ago.

A common mistake

One big list called “all customers” used for every occasion. A person receives a debt reminder and a promotional offer on the same day from the same number. To the customer it is noise; to the messenger it looks like spam.

A second risk is forgetting to remove people who asked you to stop writing. Every further message to such a person is almost a guaranteed complaint.
