Lead qualification
Lead qualification is the check that decides whether a contact is a real potential buyer worth a rep's time, based on agreed criteria.
What it looks like
Not everyone who writes in is ready or able to buy. Qualification is a short set of questions or signals that sorts contacts. Classic criteria include a real need, the ability to pay, the authority to decide and a reasonable timeframe.
In a chat, this often happens in the first few messages. A rep asks what the person is looking for, for when, and in what volume. Based on the answers, the contact moves on to a full sales conversation, goes to a slower nurturing track, or is politely closed.
Why it matters
A sales team has limited hours. Every hour spent on someone who will never buy is taken from someone who would. Qualification puts the strongest effort where the chance of payment is highest.
It also makes marketing accountable. If most leads from one source fail qualification, that source is expensive no matter how cheap each lead looked.
Typical mistake
Making qualification an interrogation. A long list of questions before any help turns warm people cold. Good qualification feels like a useful conversation, not a form.
The opposite mistake is not qualifying at all and letting reps decide by mood. Then the best reps cherry-pick, the rest drown in noise, and nobody can say how good the lead flow really is.
What to do
Agree on three or four criteria that actually predict payment in your business. Write them down, teach them, and record the result for every lead. Review rejected leads from time to time: if good clients are being turned away, the criteria are too strict.

- Facebook Messenger CRM: what a sales leader should settle before choosingBefore choosing a Facebook Messenger CRM, a sales leader settles four things: who owns the company Page and who its admins are, where clients come from — Messenger, comments, lead forms, Marketplace — who replies while the response window is still open, and whether reps write as the Page or from personal profiles. Legality and data storage are worked out separately — against platform rules, your country’s law and with a lawyer.
- Instagram CRM: what a sales leader should settle before choosingBefore choosing an Instagram CRM, a sales leader settles four things: who owns the account and access to it, who answers the shared DMs and how, where leads come from and where they get lost, and who keeps the client when the conversation moves from DMs to a messenger or a call. Platform rules, client consent and data storage are worked out separately, with a lawyer.
